Reading my blogroll this morning, I stumbled across this interesting set of interview questions. I think I am going to be pretty honest here. Let’s see how the year was:
1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Figuratively looked down the barrel of a loaded gun in terms of some relationships.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I pretty much stopped making resolutions about three years ago. I fully expect to disappoint myself, so why put it in such definitive parameters? I had one resolution for this year and I already broke it. Don’t be late to work. Whoops.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Hmmm. There was this one woman on the bus who looked really pregnant. She was sitting about three people down from me. That’s pretty close huh? But as for people I know, not really. One of Zach’s co-worker’s wives had a baby about 6 days after she was at our house.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
A friend of the family lost their baby after he was born with some heart problems. He was just a little guy, but fought like the dickens. My friend Tammy lost her beautiful 14-year-old Chloe to H1N1. RIP, sweet angel!
5. What countries did you visit?
Sheesh. We had a whirlwind travel schedule this year. Las Cruces was the closest we got to Mexico.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
I would like to be able to firmly commit to being in shape. honestly the last few years I felt like why get in shape if I am just going to have another baby? So when this little guy’s born, I will have that resolve to git-er-done once and for all. 125 lbs., HERE I COME! I would also like to have a cuter wardrobe.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
There really aren’t any dates so much as months that will remain etched in my mind. We had quite the hellish beginning in 2009.
I will remember the surprise 40th Anniversary party we had for my parents. That was quite the feat. And also, it was the day we broke the news to my parents that Sadee was going to be a big sister. Pretty memorable!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I had a pretty good year professionally. I finally got a big grant award and my commission was given statewide recognition after I submitted the award nomination. Sadee has continued to grow and thrive and is just impressing us every day with how bright she is. And I guess the little miracle who will be here soon is quite an achievement!
9. What was your biggest failure?
I lost sight of something very important to me – perhaps the most important thing in my life, but I am working on repairing that and making things better.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I didn’t have anything significant, but poor Sadee did! She fell in March and knocked a front tooth out and then contracted H1N1 in October. She was fine, thank God.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I guess this isn’t exactly something I bought, but Zach bought me a Roomba for Christmas in 2008, which we have used every day in 2009 and I have to say it’s my most favorite thing I have ever had. It’s absolutely perfect for our house and makes me feel not so overwhelmed every time I walk in the door. That, my friends, is priceless!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Uhhhh…. wow. That’s a good one. I guess it was nice of John McCain to congratulate Barak Obama after he lost the election.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Easy. Nadya Suleman – aka. Octomom
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills, bills, bills
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I was really really excited about the state conference I attended in April when the nomination I wrote was presented with an award. I was also asked to be a speaker, but it fell through at the last minute and I didn’t need to speak after all. :(
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Fireflies from Owl City – What a super cool song!
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? happier – little man’s on his way!
b) thinner or fatter? Uh yeah… pretty sure I weigh about 275 – not really, but it feels that way!
c) richer or poorer? I will always be richer, even if I am monetarily poorer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Organizing and cleaning and establishing a better routine for Sadee.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Driving
20. How did you spend Christmas?
This Christmas season was pretty sweet. My sis got to come down from Seattle with Isaac. We did our best to split time between all the family. Went to his folks on Christmas Eve and got stuck out in the frozen tundra on our way home. We stretched a 45 minute trip into over 2 hours. But it’s NOTHING compared to what some other folks went through. My parents usually come over to watch Sadee unwrap presents on Christmas morning, but the weather kept them in. Sadee was so adorable. I woke her up to tell her Santa had come to her house and that he brought her some presents. And with her sleepy little face and her sleepy little voice she said, “Really? …… Can I open them?” How sweet is that moment!
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
All over again….
22. What was your favorite TV program?
I will always love Biggest Loser but a new one has hit the radar – Tabatha’s Salon Takeover
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t hate, but I am way less impressed with Kaye West now. And Chris Brown. And our president.
24. What was the best book you read?
The Shack – best book ever
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Kings of Leon
26. What did you want and get?
Well, I wanted one but was already ok with the fact that I wasn’t going to get one, but Zach TOTALLY surprised me with an iPhone for Christmas. I was so overwhelmed that I cried.
27. What did you want and not get?
Hmmm. Professionally, I wanted the THC to accept my nomination for my town to be one of the best in Texas, but because their “clearing house” decided to hold on to it past the deadline, I didn’t get that goal accomplished. But I am over that. Personally, I kinda wanted my water to break before New Year’s, but I can live with it.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I loved Up and The Hangover. And I think I liked another one, but I can’t remember it now.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I honestly don’t remember my birthday this year. But I know I turned 34. I think it was just another day.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A cleaner, better organized house with everyone pitching in to make it a cleaner, better organized house.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Ha! What is clean? What won’t cut off my circulation around my ankles? How many times can I wear this scarf without someone noticing?
32. What kept you sane?
Talking to my sister on the MSN chat, trips to Starbucks, my under desk heater,
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I wouldn’t say I fancied him, but I couldn’t wait to hear what Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach was going to say next.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The scary, scary public health option.
35. Who did you miss?
I think I miss Omarosa. Just kidding! I miss my sister. Even though we didn’t get to talk to each other all that often or even see each other, I always knew that if I NEEDED to get to her in Austin, it was just a few hours away. Now that she’s WAAAAYYYY out in Seattle, it seems so much farther away. Miss you! And I really miss Isaac, too. He’s such a blast!
36. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn’t meet too many people this year, I don’t think. I can’t really remember. But I did start following some blogs. I did get to sorta meet Ree Drummond. That was cool. But best new person….. that’s a tough one. I know 2010 will have a better answer :)
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Don’t take things in your life for granted. Remember the promises you make and don’t assume they don’t mean anything to someone else. And don’t say douchebag at a staff meeting. It doesn’t bode well for your year-end review. But I learned that from someone else’s experience.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what
I've been through like you do
And I was made for you...”
